How Does Super Lawyers® and Rising Stars Choose Honorees?
For every edition of Super Lawyers® and Rising Stars, all qualifying attorneys undergo a multi-phase selection process composed of third-party nominations, independent research, and peer evaluation before final selection takes place. Peers, managing partners, and members of the Super Lawyers® research team can nominate an attorney for consideration, but attorneys are barred from campaigning and must be currently practicing in the United States.
During the independent research step of the review process, lawyers are examined on a total of 12 indicators of success to gauge whether a listing is warranted. Among the criteria considered are past verdicts and settlements, representative clients, experience, law firm position, other awards and honors, pro bono work, and more. Although these indicators are each weighed differently, Super Lawyers® and Rising Stars persists in reviewing all of them, aiming to paint a comprehensive picture of a legal professional’s career.
Please note: The primary difference between Super Lawyers® and Rising Stars is that only attorneys aged 40 and under or those who have been in practice for a decade or less are considered for Rising Stars. This results in only 2.5% of practicing lawyers appearing in the published edition of Rising Stars, with a mere 5% appearing in Super Lawyers®.
