Yovana is part of the DM Law team as a Legal Assistant in the Litigation Department, supporting attorneys and managing filings. She also regularly communicates with clients to update them on their case and answer their questions.
She is passionate about helping people with legal matters, especially those who have been injured and need to receive fair compensation. When these individuals share their experiences within their community, she feels her impact grows, as the information reaches more people—many of whom didn’t even know they could receive compensation.
Hispanic Connections
Yovana was born and raised in Kansas City, in Wyandotte County. Her family emigrated from Mexico (her mother is from Durango and her father from Michoacán). Because of this, Spanish was her first language, and she feels a special connection to her Hispanic roots.
Her favorite Mexican dish is chiles rellenos. She loves playing lotería with her family and dancing zapateado. Her favorite Mexican singer is Joan Sebastián.
Education
She holds a Paralegal certificate from Johnson County Community College and is currently studying in the law program at the University of Kansas (KU) to become an attorney.
Fun Facts
Yovana is the first generation in her family to attend college.
Before working at DM Law, she worked at Kansas Legal Aid and also interned with the Midwest Innocence Project. During her time at Kansas Legal Aid, she was very involved in the help center at the Wyandotte County District Court.
