A resident of a retirement apartment complex in South Kansas City suffered serious injuries after being assaulted by associates of another tenant. Before the attack, the resident had repeatedly warned apartment management about ongoing threats and concerns for their safety. Despite those warnings, the apartment complex failed to take reasonable steps to protect residents or provide adequate security.
The assault caused catastrophic injuries, including a fractured jaw and fractured nose that both required surgery, as well as a traumatic brain injury, bruised ribs, back pain, ear pain, and lasting PTSD and anxiety. The injuries affected nearly every part of the client’s daily life, and recovery required extensive medical treatment.
The apartment complex denied responsibility and refused to acknowledge its failure to address the dangerous situation. To fight for justice, our attorney filed a lawsuit and aggressively pursued the case through litigation. This included extensive discovery, multiple depositions, and working with a security expert to show how the property failed to protect its residents. After continued legal pressure, we secured a $237,500 assault settlement in Kansas City for our client.
