Take a look at some of Wichita’s intersections that have the most car accidents per year. Whether it’s caused by driver error or poor design, we want you to stay safe while on the road.
What Makes Driving Through an Intersection Dangerous?
Roughly 77% of drivers in the United States have been in a car accident in their lifetime. With numbers that high, you’d expect people to drive more cautiously. However, some people still act negligently.
In that case, you need to prepare and defend yourself the best you can. Here’s what to know when driving through busy intersections:
- High amounts of traffic
- Complex design layout
- Poor visibility due to weather or obstructions
- Construction and other hurdles
- Reckless driving

The 6 Worst Intersections in Wichita
Here are some of the most dangerous roads in Wichita. The list stems from over 10 years of data that the Wichita Area Metropolitan Planning Organization reviewed:
1. East Kellogg and Rock Road
This intersection gets a lot of drivers every day of the week, as it is right in the middle of many stores and restaurants, the Brookhollow and Eastridge neighborhoods, and intertwines with US 400. Whether you’re running to the store, eating with your family, or trying to get home, be cautious of reckless drivers and speed limit changes.
2. East Kellogg and Broadway
This intersection is directly under US 400, just east of the Arkansas River. Many confusing turns and side streets can cause accidents. It’s important to drive through this intersection carefully to avoid anyone not paying attention.
3. West 2nd Street and South Seneca
This is a popular Wichita intersection with frequent car accidents. Just west of the Arkansas River, this intersection is in the middle of the Delano neighborhood. Many lanes force you to merge quickly, islands that create narrow lanes, and other obstacles to keep an eye out for.
4. West 13th Street and N West Street
Located near apartment complexes, fast food joints, and a residential neighborhood, this intersection sees a lot of traffic and accidents. With many entrances into and out of parking lots, it’s important to proceed on these roads with caution. Additionally, the O.K. Elementary School is just north of here, making it a popular space for pedestrians, especially children.
5. Kellogg and Webb Road
With nearly countless changing lanes and the exit way for many large parking lots, it’s not uncommon for people to crash at this intersection. Make sure to pay attention to lane changes and where cars are coming from.
6. Central and Hillside
Located near Wesley Medical Center, Central and Hillside has a reputation for red-light accidents. There are many narrow lanes that merge into each other, making it easy to accidentally hit someone.
