My name is Ryan Watson. I'm an attorney with DM Injury law, and I will say the two most common questions that I receive. The nuts and bolts of any case one. What is my case worth? And two how long is it going to be around? So now I'm just going to talk about the first piece. What is my case worth? The actual truthful answer is I don't know.
Nobody knows. If an attorney tells you they know what your case is worth. As soon as you walk into the door, run the other way because they're lying. And the reason is, is simple. The value of a case is based on so many different factors. For example, uh, causation, liability. What did that other driver do? Did they do something that was really wrong?
Was it a drunk driver or something like that, or was it a semi that and the company they violated every policy they have that can impact the value of a case. Two your damages. So damages are based upon various factors. They're based upon economic factors that most people think of, right. Medical bills, lost wages, things like that.
But then we get into non-economic damages, pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, things like that. How do you put a value on that? And there's no formula to that. There's no there's no. There's no real strict formula that people have. You believe there is three times my medical or something like that.
But there is no formula. There absolutely is not. A case is basically worth what you think it is and what is what is going to compensate me for my harms and losses and ultimately what a jury says it's worth. That's what a case is worth. And another thing to consider is who's going to pay how much insurance is out there.
Because you want to make sure that if you get a judgment or you have these damages and you go to collect, you want to make sure that you're able to recover it somehow. So you have to look at at the party that you're making that claim against to see what kind of assets they have or what kind of insurance they have. And so when we when we look at cases, we work with the client, we really think about how did this crash or how did this fall, how did what ever happen to me that was caused by somebody that did something wrong?
