What Happens if My Medical Bills Exceed Policy Limits?

My name is Ryan Watson. I'm an attorney with DM Injury Law, and a very common issue that people suffer after a crash is I have large medical bills, catastrophic medical bills. What do I do if the other driver doesn't have enough insurance to cover those damages? Now, in Missouri, the minimum limits that you can have is $25,000 per accident. So if somebody, if you get an accident with somebody, or a crash, and they only have $25,000 and you have $150,000 in medical bills, what are you going to do? The analysis can get very complex, but there's various areas that we look at. We look at one, we look at your own insurance policy, because people don't think about that many times. Do you have what's called medical payments coverage? Do you have underinsured motorist coverage? Again, people don't look at their own policy, but it may make up the gap. Two, we look at every possible area of recovery. You may think, oh, the other party only has $25,000, but that may not be the end of the story. Somebody else may be at fault. Was it a different driver than the owner of the vehicle? Was there something wrong with the vehicle? If it's a slip and fall, it was somebody else responsible? Was there a snow removal company? In addition to the owner of the property. So you never know. So you have to uncover every stone and that's what we do. And then third, let's say there is only a certain amount of insurance coverage that's out there while those medical bills we can negotiate those on the back end.

So you may get $75,000 in medical bills, but we may be able to negotiate those down to $5,000. And that way you're not carrying that heavy burden, that heavy debt on your shoulders And we take care of that for you. So those are all the things that we look at. And those are exactly the reasons why you need to contact an experienced personal injury attorney. If this happens to you. Give DM Injury Law a call at 816-888- 7500. And please let us help you.
